Osteopenic fractures in Preterm Infants <1500 Grams -
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: Preterm infants, with a gestational age <29 weeks are at high risk to suffer from osteopenia of prematurity (39%) and may develop spontaneous fractures in 2%-10%. In addition to an insufficient prenatal bone mineralization, the inadequate supplementation with calcium/phosphorus and vitamin D3, immobility, prolonged parenteral nutrition and adverse effects of steroids or diuretics might be further risk factors. However, data on osteopenic fractures in preterm infants are limited and associated co-morbidities are not fully understood so far. Aim of the study was to report on preterm infants with osteopenic fractures and to analyzeco-morbidities.

Comparing the Efficacy of High and Low Doses of Vitamin A in Prevention of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia
Background Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is one of the most common serious squeal of preterm infants. It involves approximately one quarter of infants with birth weight less than 1500 grams and 30% of less than 1000 grams. Vitamin A has been shown to reduce BPD rate. We compared efficacy of low and high doses of vitamin A for prevention of BPD in very low birth weight preterm infants. Materi...

Background: The survival rate of premature newborns depends on gestational age, birth weight and condition when they are hospitalized. Different scoring systems to predict mortality in newborns has been designed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate value of CRIB II scoring system in predicting mortality rate of infants with birth weights less than 1500 grams. Material and Methods: In this...
متن کاملMorbidity and Mortality in Preterm Infants following Antacid Use: A Retrospective Audit
Background and Objectives. Antacids are often prescribed to preterm infants due to misdiagnosis of gastro-oesophageal reflux. This suppresses gastric acidity, a major defence mechanism against infection. This study aims to determine if ranitidine and omeprazole use in very low birth weight (VLBW) neonates, <1500 grams, is associated with increased risk of late onset sepsis, necrotising enteroco...

Neonates weighing less than 1500 grams (VLBW) consider nearly 4-7% of live births. VLBW infants are more likely to be hospitalized due to their complications. The aim of this study is to determine the rate of recovery, complications and predictive factors of VLBW neonate’s mortality.
